The ELR2B2 score is the aggregate system used by Singapore's five polytechnics for diploma course admission. "EL" stands for English Language, "R2" represents two relevant subjects specific to your chosen course category, and "B2" refers to your two best remaining subjects. Like L1R5, the system sums grade points — so a lower aggregate indicates better performance.

Polytechnic courses are organized into four categories (A, B, C, D) based on their academic focus and entry requirements. Category A includes the most competitive courses such as Nursing, Law & Management, and Optometry. Category B covers Engineering and Technology courses. Category C includes Business, Design, and Media studies. Category D encompasses the remaining courses with more accessible entry points. Your ELR2B2 calculation depends on selecting the correct category for your target diploma.

Unlike the L1R5 system, ELR2B2 does not offer bonus points for CCA, Higher Mother Tongue, or Third Language achievements. The aggregate is a straightforward sum of your five subjects' grade points. However, some polytechnic courses have subject prerequisites — for example, Engineering diplomas typically require strong grades in Mathematics and Science subjects, while Business courses may prioritize English and Mathematics performance.
