Frequently Asked Questions
Is SGSchoolKaki free to use?
Yes! We operate on a freemium model - core features are free for everyone. We believe in making Singapore education resources accessible to all families.
Where does the data come from?
All our data comes from official MOE sources including school websites, MOE press releases, and SchoolBag.edu.sg. We update our databases regularly.
How does the PSLE Calculator work?
Enter your AL scores for each subject and your postal code. The calculator shows secondary schools you qualify for, sorted by distance from your home.
What is L1R5 and L1R4 for JC admission?
Both are aggregate scores for Junior College admission. L1R5 (current system until 2027) = L1 (First Language: English or Higher MTL) + R5 (5 Relevant subjects including 1 Humanities, 1 Math/Science). You need ≤20 points to qualify for JC. From 2028, this changes to L1R4 = L1 + R4 (4 Relevant subjects), with ≤16 points required. Lower score = better.
How are school rankings calculated?
Rankings are based on official MOE cut-off points. Lower cut-off points indicate higher demand. Rankings change yearly based on actual posting results.
What is P1 Registration Phase 2A, 2B, 2C?
MOE allocates Primary 1 places in phases. Phase 2A is for alumni/staff connections, 2B for community/church affiliations, and 2C is open to all. Our tool checks your eligibility.
How is home-to-school distance calculated?
We use proprietary technology to calculate accurate distance between your postal code and the school, matching the method MOE uses for P1 registration balloting.
What is DSA (Direct School Admission)?
DSA lets students apply to secondary schools based on talents before PSLE results. Applications open in May yearly. Our DSA browser shows all programmes offered by each school.
What are IP (Integrated Programme) schools?
IP schools offer a 6-year programme where students skip O-Levels and go directly to A-Levels or IB. These schools typically have lower (more competitive) cut-off points.
What is ELR2B2 for polytechnic admission?
ELR2B2 is the aggregate score for polytechnic admission. It stands for: EL (English Language) + R2 (2 Relevant subjects) + B2 (2 Best other subjects). There are 4 categories (A/B/C/D) with different relevant subject requirements - e.g., Category C (Engineering/IT) requires Math + Science as R2. See our JAE Aggregate Types guide for details.
What are affiliated schools and how do they help?
Affiliated schools share historical or religious ties. Students from affiliated primary schools get priority admission to the secondary school, with a 2-point bonus in some cases.
How does balloting work for P1 Registration?
When a school is oversubscribed, MOE conducts balloting. Singapore Citizens are prioritised, then PRs. Within each group, those living within 1km get priority, then within 2km.
What are SAP, AEP, and MEP schools?
SAP (Special Assistance Plan) schools focus on Chinese language and culture. AEP offers Art Elective Programme. MEP offers Music Elective Programme. Each has specific entry requirements.
Do I need an account to use the calculators?
No account needed for calculators. However, creating a free account lets you bookmark schools, save calculations, and join community discussions.
How often is the data updated?
Cut-off points are updated annually after each posting exercise. School information like CCAs and open house dates are updated as schools announce them.
Is my personal data safe?
Yes. We do not store sensitive data like postal codes - calculations are done in real-time without saving. We never sell personal data to third parties. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I report an error or suggest a feature?
