MOE's Teaching Approach
MOE emphasizes teaching grammar in context, not in isolation. Students learn verb forms through reading passages, writing tasks, and oral communication.
P1-P2: Foundation Verb Forms
Lower PrimaryIn Primary 1 and 2, students build the essential foundation of English verb usage with the most frequently used tenses.
P1-P2 Irregular Verbs (Must Memorize!)
Common P1-P2 Mistakes
- ❌ "He walk to school yesterday." → ✅ "He walked to school yesterday."
- ❌ "She goed to the market." → ✅ "She went to the market."

P3-P4: Continuous & Future Tenses
Middle PrimaryIn Primary 3 and 4, students expand their verb knowledge to include continuous tenses (actions in progress) and the future tense.

Subject-Verb Agreement
CriticalSubject-verb agreement means the verb must match the subject in number. This is heavily tested in PSLE.
1. Compound Subjects with "and"
Usually take a plural verb
Tom and Jerry are best friends.
2. Either/Or, Neither/Nor
Verb agrees with the nearest subject
Neither the boys nor the girl wants to go.
3. Collective Nouns (PSLE Trap!)
Usually singular in Singapore English
