PSLE AL Score Calculator & PSLE Scoring System

Each PSLE subject is graded with an Achievement Level (AL) from AL 1 (best) to AL 8, based on raw marks: AL 1 = 90 and above; AL 2 = 85 – 89; AL 3 = 80 – 84; AL 4 = 75 – 79; AL 5 = 65 – 74; AL 6 = 45 – 64; AL 7 = 20 – 44; AL 8 = Below 20.

Add up the ALs of the 4 subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue Language. The best possible PSLE Score is 4 (AL 1 in every subject), and a lower score is better.

A PSLE Score of 15 is in the 4 – 20 range, so it gives Posting Group 3. Whether a particular school is within reach depends on that school’s cut-off point, which changes every year. Compare it with each school in our secondary school ranking.

Yes. A PSLE Score of 21 or 22 gives a choice of Posting Group 3 or Posting Group 2. Pick the one that suits your child’s learning pace.

A PSLE Score of 26 – 30 gives Posting Group 1, as long as your child has AL 7 or better in both English Language and Mathematics. A score of 25 gives a choice of Posting Group 2 or 1.

Foundation subjects are graded AL A (75 – 100 marks), AL B (30 – 74) or AL C (below 30). For the PSLE Score they count as AL 6, AL 7 and AL 8.

It is the PSLE Score of the last student admitted to that school in the previous year’s S1 posting. It changes every year, so treat it as a guide, not a guarantee.

MOE breaks the tie in this order: 1. citizenship, 2. choice order (how high the school was in your list of 6 choices), 3. computerised balloting.
