The L1R5 score is Singapore's standard aggregate system for Junior College (JC) and Millennia Institute (MI) admission through the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE). "L1" stands for your first language (typically English), while "R5" represents your five relevant subjects. The system calculates the sum of grade points across these six subjects — with A1 worth 1 point and F9 worth 9 points — meaning a lower aggregate indicates better performance.

The R5 selection follows specific rules to ensure a well-rounded academic profile: one Humanities subject, one Mathematics or Science subject, and your two best remaining subjects. This structure rewards students who demonstrate breadth across disciplines while still allowing them to leverage their strengths. For example, a science-inclined student can count Physics and Chemistry while still needing to include a Humanities subject like Geography or History.

CCA performance can further improve your L1R5 through the LEAPS 2.0 framework. Students with CCA achievement at the Excellent level receive a 2-point deduction from their aggregate, while Good level earns a 1-point deduction.
