Graduating Sec 4 / Sec 5
Results may combine no more than 2 sittings of the O-Level examinations. Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents, and International Students enrolled in government, government-aided and Independent Schools.
The Polytechnic Early Admissions Exercise (EAE)is Singapore’s aptitude-based route into the 5 polytechnics — graduating O-Level, ITE and working-adult applicants can lock in a conditional offer before O-Level results.
Apply EAE first — there is zero downside if rejected. JAE is always your backup and is unaffected by an EAE rejection.
EAE tip
ITE students apply 11–17 June. Working adults 1–28 June. All windows are strictly enforced — late applications are not accepted.
Higher Nitec GPA ≥ 2.5 (raised from 2.0 for AY2027); Nitec GPA ≥ 3.5. Working adults need 2+ years of relevant work experience.
Apply via the central portal at eae.polytechnic.edu.sg. Each choice needs a separate aptitude write-up — no copy-paste allowed.
The offer converts to a firm place only if you meet Minimum Entry Requirements (MERs) when O-Level results are released in January 2027.
EAE rejection does not affect JAE in any way. Always apply EAE first if eligible, then treat JAE as your safety net.
EAE evaluates applicants on aptitude, portfolio, and passion — not just O-Level scores. You apply while still in school and can lock in a polytechnic place months before results.
EAE stands for Early Admissions Exercise. Unlike JAE — purely score-based, held in January after results — EAE judges you on your aptitude, portfolio and passion for a specific course. You apply while still in school (or ITE), before final results are out.
A successful applicant receives a conditional offer: a guaranteed polytechnic place, provided they meet the course’s Minimum Entry Requirements (MERs) when O-Level results are released in January 2027.
The five polytechnics admit about 20% of their intake through EAE. Course-level caps are up to 30% for most diplomas, rising to 50% for aptitude-heavy courses such as Early Childhood, Social Work, Design and Media. Exact intake proportions vary by course and are set annually by each polytechnic. Engineering and IT courses typically have lower EAE shares.

Raised from 2.0 to 2.5 from AY2027 polytechnic intake onwards (i.e. starting with 2026 EAE applicants) Nursing: GPA 3.0 or better.

The Higher Nitec EAE eligibility GPA threshold has been raised from 2.0 to 2.5 from AY2027 polytechnic intake onwards — starting with the 2026 EAE exercise. If you are a current Higher Nitec student, aim for a net GPA of 2.5 or above to be eligible.
The Nursing exception for Higher Nitec students remains at a minimum net GPA of 3.0 — unchanged. For O-Level students, the ELR2B2 thresholds of 26 (and 28 for Nursing) are also unchanged from previous years.
Each polytechnic has distinct academic strengths. Match your aptitude to the poly's specialisms — not just course names.

A 600-character write-up explaining your passion and aptitude for each course applied for
It is the only text evidence you submit before the interview, so treat it like a cover letter for your dream course. Answer three questions in 600 characters — every sentence must earn its place:
600 characters including spaces — less than two short paragraphs. Our framework breaks it into 5 parts with 3 worked examples across different diploma types.
Shortlisted applicants are contacted by the polytechnic between 6 July and 1 September 2026. The format varies by course.
Know your write-up inside out — interviewers will probe your stated reasons and achievements. Design and media courses may ask you to explain your portfolio pieces in real time.
Covers common panel interview questions, portfolio presentation tactics, aptitude test formats at each polytechnic, and how to handle nerves on the day.
An EAE offer is conditional. Two things can happen when your final results come out in January 2027 — here is exactly how each plays out.
Successful applicants receive conditional offers BEFORE O-Level results / final GPA. To convert to firm admission, you must still meet the polytechnic's Minimum Entry Requirements (MERs) for the course offered.
Accept your offer during 8–11 September 2026. Once you accept you are committed — you cannot take a JAE place for a different course. Clear the course’s MER when O-Level results drop in January and your polytechnic place is firm. No JAE needed.
If your final O-Level ELR2B2 (or ITE GPA) is below the course MER, the offer is automatically revoked in January 2027. You proceed to JAE like any other O-Level holder — the revocation does not penalise you. Always treat EAE as a bonus pathway, not a safety net, and study hard regardless.
EAE rewards aptitude and passion; JAE is purely ELR2B2. Most students should apply via both.
Avoid these before you hit submit — each mistake has cost applicants their shot at an EAE offer.
Applying to a course just because a friend is applying — EAE rewards genuine, documented passion.
Submitting a generic write-up without course-specific evidence — polytechnics can tell.
Not preparing for the interview format (some are panel, some are portfolio reviews — check in advance).
Forgetting the English Language S-Pass condition — if EL is weak, check MER for each course.
Accepting an EAE offer impulsively and then regretting it after better O-Level results in January.
Underestimating the write-up character count — 600 characters including spaces is less than two short paragraphs.
Applying for only 1 course when you have capacity for 3 — more applications at no extra cost.
Not applying to EAE at all because you assume your score is too low — the aptitude component can compensate.
Your shot at a poly place, months early
EAE is a free second shot at your dream course months before O-Level results
Eligible? Apply. A rejection costs you nothing and your JAE chances are untouched. A win means you walk into your O-Levels with a polytechnic place already waiting.
There is no application fee and no risk to JAE. The only real cost is the time to write a sharp 600-character statement per course — and that time is well spent.
Check eligibility → browse poly profiles → draft your write-up → compile your portfolio → submit by 1 July 2026. Use the calculator and write-up guide to save hours.
