P1 Registration Checklist 2026 — Month-by-Month Action Guide

Singapore's 2026 P1 Registration runs from July to October 2026. Use this checklist to stay ahead — every action from May 2026 (deferment deadline) through October 2026 (Phase 3) in one place. If your child starts P1 in January 2027, some preparation steps should have begun as far back as July 2025. Last updated 30 Apr 2026.

Why You Need a Checklist

The P1 registration exercise looks straightforward on paper — a handful of phases over a few months. In practice, it is a sequence of hard deadlines that cannot be appealed. Missing your eligible phase by even one day means waiting for the next phase, where your distance priority may be lower or the school may already be full.

Two actions in particular catch parents off guard. First, Phase 2B volunteering must clock 40+ hours before 30 June 2026 — meaning you need to have started by July 2025 at the latest. Second, the 30-month residency commitment for distance priority begins from the registration exercise date, not from when your child starts school. Planning your home address around P1 requires at least a 2.5-year commitment.

This month-by-month guide covers every action so nothing slips through the cracks.

Month-by-Month Checklist

July 2025Start now if child starts P1 in Jan 2027
  1. Begin Phase 2B parent volunteering at your target school

You need 40+ hourslogged and verified by 30 June 2026. Register with the school's parent volunteer programme and confirm they will issue a certificate. Slots fill up — do not wait until 2026.

  2. Verify your 30-month residency at your current home address

If you used your address for distance priority, you must reside there for 30 months from the start of the registration exercise (July 2026). That means you should commit to this address until at least January 2029.

  3. Identify 3–5 target schools by distance band

Use the P1 distance calculator to model which schools fall within 1km and 2km of your home. Check historical balloting data to estimate your odds at each school.

May 2026Deferment & Phase 3 indication
  1. Submit deferment application by 31 May 2026

If your child is not ready for P1 in January 2027, you may apply to defer entry by one year. Apply online via MOE with a supporting letter from a paediatrician or child psychologist. Deferment requires MOE approval and is not automatic.

  2. Submit Phase 3 indication of interest: 19–25 May 2026

International students (non-SC, non-PR) wishing to register under Phase 3 must submit an indication of interest during this window via the MOE portal.

  3. Watch for MOE per-school vacancy publication

MOE publishes the number of places available at each school before Phase 1 opens. Review these numbers to update your school shortlist if vacancy counts have changed.

June 2026Documents & address verification
  1. Complete alternative address declaration if applicable

The alternative address declaration window is 29 Jun 2025 – 27 Jul 2026. If you are using a different address for registration (e.g. grandparents' home), ensure the declaration is submitted and the NRIC reflects the correct address.

  2. Gather all citizenship documents

You will need: child's birth certificate, child's NRIC or PR re-entry permit, both parents' NRICs (or passports for PR/international). Check expiry dates now — renewing an NRIC takes time.

  3. Run a final distance check on your school shortlist

Use the P1 distance calculator (powered by OneMap HSD data) to confirm your 1km / 2km categories. Google Maps distances differ from the official HSD calculation and should not be relied on.

  4. Confirm volunteer hours are on track (Phase 2B)

The deadline for Phase 2B volunteering is 30 June 2026. Confirm with the school that your hours have been logged and that a certificate will be issued.

July 2026Registration phases open
  1. Phase 1 — 30 Jun – 2 Jul 2026 — sibling priority

Children with an older sibling currently enrolled at the school. Register through the school directly during the window. Guaranteed placement as long as places remain (schools reserve sibling slots).

  2. Phase 2A — 9–10 Jul 2026 — alumni, staff, SAC, MK

For children of alumni, school staff, members of the School Advisory Committee (SAC), or members of a Mission Kindergarten or clan kindergarten affiliated with the school. Each sub-category within Phase 2A is treated as one combined group.

  3. Phase 2B — 20–21 Jul 2026 — volunteers & community

For children of parent volunteers (40+ hours by 30 Jun 2026) and community leaders endorsed by the school. Each school reserves 20 places for Phase 2B. If more eligible applicants than places, balloting by HSD category applies.

  4. !
Phase 2C — 28–30 Jul 2026 CONFIRMED — open to all SC and PR

The largest and most competitive phase. Open to all Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents who have not registered in earlier phases. Schools reserve 40 places for Phase 2C. When oversubscribed, balloting proceeds by HSD category (within 1km SC first, then 1–2km SC, etc.). In 2025, 59 schools were already oversubscribed among within-1km SC families.

August 2026Results & last-chance supplementary
  1. Phase 2C results — 11 Aug 2026

Check MOE's P1 registration portal for your result. If successful, confirm acceptance of the school place. If unsuccessful, register for Phase 2C Supplementary immediately.

  2. !
    Phase 2C Supplementary — 17–18 Aug 2026: last chance for unplaced SC/PR

If your child did not secure a place in Phase 2C, this is the final phase for Singapore Citizens and PRs. Register at any school that still has vacancies. Places are limited; submit early on 18 Aug. After this phase, MOE will directly allocate remaining unplaced children to a school.

September – October 2026Finalise & prepare
  1. Phase 3 — international students (Sep/Oct)

For non-SC, non-PR children. Registration at schools with remaining vacancies. MOE publishes the list of schools with Phase 3 vacancies before the window opens.

  2. All registrations finalised by MOE

MOE directly allocates any remaining unplaced children to schools with vacancies. Parents have no say in the allocated school at this stage.

  3. Begin school orientation preparation

Attend any pre-admission orientations offered by your child's school. Prepare uniforms, stationery, and school bags. P1 begins January 2027.

Documents to Prepare

Gather these documents well in advance. Some, like NRIC renewals or volunteer certificates, can take weeks to obtain.

For the Child

  • Child's birth certificate (original)
  • Child's NRIC (SC) or PR re-entry permit (PR)
  • Student pass or long-term visit pass (international students)

For the Registering Parent

  • Registering parent's NRIC (must show residential address)
  • Second parent's NRIC or passport
  • Proof of residency if address differs from NRIC (e.g. tenancy agreement)

Phase 2B (Volunteer / Community)

  • School-issued volunteer certificate confirming 40+ hours by 30 Jun 2026
  • Community leader endorsement letter (if applicable)

Phase 2A (Alumni / Staff / SAC)

  • Parent's alumni certificate or graduation letter from the school
  • Employment confirmation letter (if registering as a staff member)
  • SAC membership letter or MK/clan kindergarten affiliation proof

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Starting volunteering too late

Phase 2B requires 40+ volunteer hours completed by 30 June 2026. If you only start volunteering in early 2026, you likely will not accumulate enough hours. Begin by July 2025 at the latest — and confirm the school will count your hours.

Using a non-residential or temporary address

Distance priority is based on the registering parent's NRIC address. Renting near a school solely for registration — then moving back — violates the 30-month residency rule. MOE will transfer your child to another school, with no parental input on the choice.

Missing the deferment deadline

The 2026 deferment deadline is 31 May 2026. Parents who miss this date cannot defer their child's entry — there are no late applications. If you are unsure whether your child needs deferment, consult a paediatrician early and submit the application even if you later decide not to proceed.

Not having backup school choices

Parents who only target one popular school and lose the ballot have no recourse in that phase. Always prepare a list of at least 3 schools across different distance bands so you have viable fallback options if your first choice is oversubscribed.

Relying on Google Maps for distance estimates

Google Maps uses different algorithms from OneMap's Home-School Distance calculation. A school that appears "within 1km" on Google Maps may be categorised as between 1km and 2km under the official HSD system. Always verify using OneMap-based tools or the official OneMap School Query at onemap.gov.sg/school.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I appeal a P1 registration result?

There is no formal appeal process for P1 registration phase results. If your child does not secure a place in Phase 2C Supplementary, MOE will directly allocate a school. Parents cannot choose the allocated school. The best strategy is to register in the earliest eligible phase and keep backup choices ready.

What if I miss a phase deadline?

Each phase has a strict two-day registration window. Missing the window for a phase you are eligible for means you must wait for the next open phase — where places may already be gone. MOE does not grant extensions. Set calendar reminders for every phase window and confirm your eligibility in advance.

Can I change schools after Phase 2C?

Once your child is allocated a school through P1 registration, school transfers are only possible in exceptional circumstances and require MOE approval. MOE does not guarantee transfers. It is better to make your school selection carefully during the registration window rather than plan to switch afterwards.

What is the deferment process for 2026?

P1 deferment allows a one-year delay if a child is not ready for formal schooling. The 2026 deadline is 31 May 2026. Apply via the MOE website with a supporting letter from a paediatrician or child psychologist. Deferment is not automatic — MOE evaluates each application. A deferred child joins the 2027 P1 Registration Exercise.
