🏆 Idiomatic Expressions (成语)
成语 (chéngyǔ) are fixed four-character expressions with deep meanings rooted in Chinese history, literature and folklore. The MOE syllabus requires P3-P6 students to learn these idioms progressively, and using them correctly in PSLE composition shows advanced Chinese ability.
This chapter contains 200 must-know 成语 organised by primary level. Each card shows the idiom with pinyin, meaning and a Singapore-context example sentence. Tap any card to expand it.
How to Use 成语 in Composition
Using 1-2 成语 naturally in your PSLE composition can earn you bonus marks. Do not force them — pick idioms that fit your story. For example, if your character is working hard, use 全力以赴. If describing a beautiful scene, use 五颜六色.
