🔍 Reading Comprehension (阅读理解)

Paper 2 (阅读理解) is the highest-weighted paper at 34% of your total grade. It tests language use (语文应用) and reading comprehension across two passages. This chapter covers strategies and question types to help you score well.

🔍 Five Key Question Types

1️⃣ 词语理解 (Vocabulary)

Explain the meaning of a word or phrase in context. Look at surrounding sentences for clues.

💡 Tip: Use your own words — do not just copy from the passage.

2️⃣ 内容理解 (Content)

Answer based on information directly stated in the passage.

💡 Tip: Underline key phrases in the passage that match the question.

3️⃣ 推断题 (Inference)

Figure out what is implied but not directly stated.

💡 Tip: Look for clues in the character's actions, words and feelings.

4️⃣ 原因题 (Reason/Cause)

Explain why something happened. Usually uses 为什么 or 原因.

💡 Tip: Answer with 因为...所以... structure for full marks.

5️⃣ 感受/启示 (Feelings/Lesson)

Share your personal reflection on the passage.

💡 Tip: Connect the lesson to your own life or experiences in Singapore.

Read the questions first

Skim all questions before reading the passage. This tells you what to look for.

Read the passage carefully

Underline key sentences, especially those related to the questions.

Find evidence in the text

For each question, locate the relevant paragraph and underline the answer.

Answer in complete sentences

Write your answer in full Chinese sentences. Include 因为/所以 for reason questions.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Copying the passage word-for-word without explaining in your own words
Giving answers that are too short — always explain your reasoning
Not reading the question carefully — 为什么 questions need a reason
Forgetting to answer all parts of a multi-part question
