finished a levels with okay results (likely 80+ rank points so can get into local uni). but honestly feeling burnt out from 14 years of non-stop education considering taking gap year to: - work and save some money - travel and see different parts of the world - figure out what i actually want to study (right now blur about major choice) - maybe volunteer for causes im interested in - rest and recover from academic burnout but everyone around me including parents, teachers, friends all saying gap year is waste of time and will "fall behind" peers. they say singaporean culture doesnt really accept gap years unlike western countries concerns: 1. will local unis look down on gap year applicant? 2. will i lose study momentum and struggle when i return to education? 3. is it true that employers question gap year on resume? 4. will all my friends be 1 year ahead and i feel left out? or are these just societal pressures and i should do what feels right for me? anyone taken gap year in singapore? was it worth it or did you regret it? what did you do during the year and did it actually help you figure things out?
