got into local uni (nus) and also got accepted to decent uk university (russell group). parents say they can afford overseas but will need to use significant portion of savings cost comparison: - local uni: ~$40k total (4 years tuition + living at home) - uk uni: ~$200k total (3 years tuition + accommodation + living expenses) thats $160k difference which is ALOT of money. could be used for downpayment on property, starting business, etc pros of going overseas: - different culture exposure -
overseas university vs local university - is paying 200k for overseas degree worth it?

got into local uni (nus) and also got accepted to decent uk university (russell group). parents say they can afford overseas but will need to use significant portion of savings
cost comparison:
- local uni: ~$40k total (4 years tuition + living at home)
- uk uni: ~$200k total (3 years tuition + accommodation + living expenses)
thats $160k difference which is ALOT of money. could be used for downpayment on property, starting business, etc
pros of going overseas:
- different culture exposure
- more independent living experience
- international network
- chance to travel europe
- maybe more fun/freedom
pros of staying local:
- save huge amount of money
- stay close to family and friends
- local degree recognized well in singapore
- can work part time/internship easier in singapore
career-wise, is overseas degree actually valued more by singapore employers? or is it just paying for experience rather than career advantage?
my parents leaving decision to me but i feel guilty about making them spend so much. at the same time dont want to miss out on overseas experience
anyone made this decision before? regret going overseas? regret not going? what factors should i prioritize?
